Who can vote in Prague 8?

You can vote in the Prague 8 municipal elections if you are:

  • a Czech citizen with permanent residence in Prague 8, or
  • a citizen of another EU member state who has permanent or temporary residence in Prague 8 and is registered to vote in the relevant electoral register.

If you are an EU citizen, you do not automatically get added to the electoral register simply because you live in Prague 8. You must have requested registration in the supplement to the permanent electoral register.

Where do I vote?

What should I bring?

When you go to vote, make sure to bring a valid ID card or passport, together with your Registration Certificate (temporary residence registration) or Permanent Residence Permit.

What will I be voting for?

In Prague 8, you will vote for:

1. Prague 8 Municipal District Council

Prague 8 is one electoral district, and voters elect 45 councillors.

2. Prague City Assembly

You will also receive a ballot for the Prague City Assembly (65 representatives)

This is a separate ballot, so make sure you understand how to mark each ballot before putting it into the envelope.

How do I mark the ballot?

Municipal elections work differently from parliamentary elections.

You can use your votes in three ways.

Option 1: Vote for one political party or candidate list

If you want to support an entire candidate list, mark the box next to its name.

This gives your votes to candidates on that list.

Option 2: Choose individual candidates

You can mark individual candidates from one or more candidate lists.

For the Prague 8 Municipal District Council, you can mark up to 45 candidates, because 45 councillors are elected.

Option 3: Combine both

You can mark an entire candidate list and individual candidates from other lists.

This allows you to support one party or political grouping while giving preference to specific people from other candidate lists.

Be careful: do not mark more candidates than the number of councillors being elected. Otherwise, your ballot can become invalid.

If you are unsure how to mark your ballot, you can ask the electoral commission about the voting procedure. The choice of who to vote for is, of course, entirely yours.

What if I don't receive my ballot papers?

Ballot papers are normally delivered to voters before the election.

If you do not receive them at home, you can request replacement ballot papers at your polling station.

So you can still vote even if your ballot papers were not delivered to your home.
